Twitter’s Credibility & Immediacy Used By Media Publications And Others..

There’s a raw craze in many parts of the world about Twitter, a free social networking and micro-blogging service that enables its users to send and read messages known as ‘tweets’. It may restrict its posts to 140 characters, but the British Cabinet Office needed 20 pages to explain the microblog to its civil servants. In a document that included objectives, metrics and five appendices, civil servants last week were advised to produce between two and 10 Tweets per day – at least 30 minutes apart to avoid overwhelming followers – in an “informal, ‘human’ voice’ to promote inclusion of and engagement with their corporate messages. Whereas U.S. policies on Twitter appear to be amalgamated. White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs created a flap in the blogosphere last week after telling CNN that Twitter is blocked on official White House computers.

Twitter being used for informative purposes these days has raised the bar for the social networking site. Some of these illustrations will help you know what i mean.

Recently India Today started their new section on Twitter which is called News Buzzer. India Today is one of the leading media publications in India, so why would they possibly go Twittering around for more users? News stories that are meant for readers online as smalll bits of information that need not necessarily be with a whole analysis on it are available. Quick news flashes for instance this one, which might be a useful piece of news for certain people but not necessarily to all. The whole idea to have a completely unique name on a something like Twitter, is to make use of the latter’s success.

If web traffic is an indication of Twitter’s rage, there’s more than just one publication. In India, Mint, Network18, and DNA are among those regularly updating their Twitter service with news feeds. There are more to come, probably they’ll measure their readership on Twitter first and then start a publication. What an era!
