Recently, news spread from Google House that they are planning to monetize Google Voice Service. You must be thinking how they are going to do it. But remember that its Google who always bring new and innovative ideas to the table. This time they are going to monetize by advertisement on phone. I’ll explain how, whenever you call someone, there is small time gap between when you dial a number and the person answered the phone, this is the place where google is going to play and insert short advertisements called “ringback advertising”. Google has already patented this.
How will this work?
Google is thinking about setting up a self serving audio advertising system which will work similar to Google AdWords. Complete with auction bidding, listen through ratio and quality scores.
How Advertisers can take advantage?
Similar to Google AdWords, advertisers structure their ads by various product categories, location, etc. which can easily be determined for each caller and then start bidding for their ads to be played. On the other hand, callers can also set up in their account that what kind of ads interests them.
Third Party Publishers
Third party publishers like service organization; retailers etc. can also take advantage out of it. The electronics chain can act as a publisher and vendors will set up their product or service audio advertisements in the chain which will be played each time when someone calls one of their stores or help lines.
This will not only work through Google Voice, infact some software can also be installed in company PBX and the ringback advert will start working.
Google has thought of pretty effective stream of revenue generation. We all make and receive many calls each day and won’t mind if we heard some ad of our interest instead of a boring beep tone.
Through this, Google voice can gain traction with billions of users throughout the world and with its best ad targeting capabilities this will create a new market and revenue generation stream. But it has some negative side as well, already google knows maximum about you and now this!
