Growth Predictions – Online at 44%, Mobile at 600% in FY ‘09-10 – Digital Media Outlook Report
Webchutney – The Digital Marketing Agency has released the first edition of its annual report which looks at the future prospects of the Digital Media Industry in India. This report analyzes the digital medium by analyzing the ad-spends of the Top 500 marketers who control two thirds of all advertising spends in India. The interview was conducted with the sampled marketers, who were typically C-level executives (13% of them were Brand Heads, 15% were Marketing Communication Heads and almost 72% were Marketing Heads).
The report is made in association with JuxtConsult. Some numbers from the report are as follows:
The report also does some crystal ball gazing into the future. Here are the future growth predictions:
As the statistics show above both Internet and Mobile show increased spending in year 09-10. Infact mobile is expected to grow faster than any other medium.
Our Take: These are interesting findings but the credibility of the same is questionable as Webchutney itself is a digital agency and hence a pro-digital media report is expected. We would really like an independent body or research agency to carry out such research reports to give a fair as well as credible insight into the digital media space. Nonetheless the report is quite informative and it does give insights into the reasons for digital media spending and media spending by top 500 advertisers.
The report can be read below:

hey rajiv, thanks for the post. just a short note on the credibility bit, we used Juxt exactly for the same reason – the study was conducted independently through them (ofcourse we are associated, but thats really another tangent since they run independently) And personally, given a choice, i would have liked to see the growth much higher than 44%, it wld be good for all of us!
Cheers, and thanks again for the post!
The effort by Webchutney is highly appreciable. However, nothing new seems to be coming out from it. Overall the same old story of internet being treated as a step medium by marketers is reflecting from the report. May be some insights and efforts to actually educate marketers and some studies on bringing in common currency/tools and transparency on the table will help grow industry.
Cheers!!!
