Bharti, Vodafone Set to Bring New ‘iPhone 3G S’ To Indian Shores In August

Apple’s new offering ‘iPhone 3G S’ would soon be reaching Indian shores in August, this time too it would be launched by exclusive partners Bharti Airtel and Vodafone Essar. Although Apple has not divulged any further details regarding the same. The phone would be launched on June 19 in the US along with 10 more countries.

The new ‘iPhone 3G S’ offers approximately twice the speed that of the pervious iPhone 3G making its much faster. The phone also supports OpenGL 2.0 standard thus enhancing the quality of 3D graphics making mobile games and other graphic intense applications immersing.

The device is also said to be offering longer battery life along with a 3 megapixel autofocus camera. The camera supports high quality video recording. It also offers lengthier operations via voice commands along with Voice Over feature that reads the text that appears on the screen. The phone would also see introduction of new iPhone OS 3.0 which would be offer as free update to all the previous iPhone customers.

Indian Telcos are already gearing up for 3G launch with premium offerings and recent e-mail data plans price cut by reliance shows the seriousness of the players to extract higher revenues from value added services by attracting newer audience to its fold. Apple at the same time is also looking at more telecom tie-ups in India due to lesser off take since launch.

The 50% reduction in iphone 3G prices (from 199$ to 99$) would not attract much price cut in short term for Indian markets but may set a precedent for future price cuts.India being a price sensitive market major price reductions are required to increase iphone sales as there has been a huge growth in Smartphone sales in recent months.

Telecom players should indeed try to make iphone affordable for Indian Telecom subscribers rather than turning away mass audiences by high pricing as more off take would mean higher revenues in terms of additional services as well as higher internet access via phones given the iPhones ease at internet access and browsing.
