Reliance GSM service in a quest to prove its brand positioning of ‘connecting subscribers to their loved one as and when they want’ has started an interactive advertising campaign enabling users to call their friends for free by inputting respective information.

To make one minute free call user has to provide details of himself and his friend. The call can be made between 9.00 am and 9.00 pm and automatically connects both mobile numbers. User can also visit Goforit.co.in to avail this service.

The service involves a message tone by Hrithik Roshan, brand ambassador for reliance communication and a Reliance GSM jingle. To avoid misuse it also discourages continuous calling to the same number.Although it excludes any disclosure regarding the use of information provided by users .

The surprising element is the banner advertising which reliance is using for this campaign on various news site such as Indiatimes, IBNLive & NDTV and is on the similar line of strategy deployed by Nokia’s email campaign.

Some interesting information as reported by Afaqs:

High Reach

The mobile operator would be targeting a reach of 45-55 per cent of the Total online audience within a month period by serving some 250 million ad impressions across websites and Ad networks.

The reach is huge and could do wonders for newly launched Reliance GSM looking at the Ad penetration and interactivity levels.

Thrust on Interactive advertising

The company would also be going for branding partnership with third party services like 123greetings and Ibibo to improve interactiveness and engagement of Ad campaign. They would also be using their sister associate zapak to develop an online game promoting the product.Reliance Mobile will also spend some 3-4 per cent of its advertising budget on online marketing.

This mix of social media along with high doses of interactive advertising shows the increasing thrust of Indian companies to adapt to Online advertising in a big way and may come as good news for Online Ad networks in India.

Reliance at the same time being a telecom major could have provided higher call time of at least three minutes because a user takes at least One minute to fill the required information. Such short calling time frame may be a big dampener and could play spoilsport in putting through its point of pleasure calling.

  1. Idea is good .Let’s see how it is going to attract new customers .

  2. Dear all,

I used RElaince GSM for two months and paid Rs 950 at the time of connection, Rs 700 for the frist week bill and over that i was able to call STD for only one week. Reliance GSM, blocks ur outgoing after one week based on estimates made by the computer when it exceeds Rs1000 and when ur actual bill will be only Rs200 for one week. Later you keep getting message that “please pay the bill”. None of the coustomer care service will give you right ans to this. NOT TO COMMNET ABOUT THE RECEPTION…ITS THE WORST PART OF IT. , I NEVER RECEVIED CALLS FOR TWO MONTHS!

I suffered and who ever reads this … would make a wise decision!

    best Rajesh
