HTC to launch Android based phones in India soon.


Jealous of a friend in US/UK playing with Android phone. Soon your wish of owning an Android phone will be fulfilled as HTC is planning to launch Android based mobile phones in India by the end of 2009. Most of us are aware of the Android fever catching up the mobile market and dying to grab a Android based phone. Ajay Sharma, Country Head, HTC India told reporters  “We will be launching the Android. When is the question but sooner the better” in response to when Android based phone will be launched in India. He also indicated that it may be launched this year.

As per Ajay India is the key emerging market and they had already seen a 300 percent growth in 2008 as compared to 2007, holding around 20 percent of smart phones market in India.Launching an Android phone will definitely be a huge plus for HTC over other competitors.

There are various advantages of using Android based phones that can attract customers

  • Android is open source meaning more and frequent updates.
  • Users dont have to rely on manufacturer for software updates.
  • Will help lowering the Mobile phone prices by cutting the software cost thus helping both users and manufacturers.
  • Backed by Google,HTC and many other leading manufacturers.
  • More applications – Like in open source desktop market ,users will have far advanced and larger number of applications.

Smart-phones market in India is still in nascent stages and has the capability to grow leaps and bounds. We will see which player can encash this market segment. If HTC launches Android based smart phone shortly they can ride both waves of booming smart phone market in India and Android fever helping them to boost their bottom line.

    Saurabh,

    Hope this happens soon. It was supposed to come out by the end of 2008, and now we have to wait till the end of 2009!

    And what is this supposed to mean?
    “More applications – Like in open source desktop market ,users will have far advanced and larger number of applications”

    Is this factual?

    Since Android is open source and applications can be built in Java there will be huge number of apps that can be and are being developed.

    So you will have a huge number of apps at your disposal.

    Just confirmed with HTC that the HTC magic releases in India at the end of July 2009.
