So what are you doing this Saturday, June 13th? If you are a net freak like us, you would be sticking in front of your computer screens, with this link open and all fingers on the keyboard; because if you are not, then somebody else will beat you to the Facebook counter. We have blogged about Facebook vantity urls earlier and how important it might be to users.
Now Facebook has set a date for the same and is going to make its new vanity URLs feature live on 13th of June and the huge landrush for the coveted URL will begin.
Well for those who still ask what a vanity URL is?
Well it basically means that now you can choose to have your own custom URLs like this facebook.com/xyzuser/ instead of this complicated piece of junk Facebook gives us right now – profile.php?id=500065899.
These vanity URLs are an important feature of most social media websites. They help you in claiming your own personal internet space and make sharing the URL to your profile much easier i.e. (twitter.com/adityarao310). And if you don’t believe me, take a look at what my faster namesake is doing on Twitter!
Nothing! twitter.com/adityarao
So don’t get beaten to the finish line this time around! Expectedly, you will have to follow certain rules to use this service:
Facebook usernames will be available in basic text forms, and you can only choose a single username for your profile and for each of the Pages that you administer. Your username must be at least five characters in length and only include alphanumeric characters (A-Z, 0-9), or a period or full stop (“.”). While usernames are currently available only for Romanized text, we’re looking at how we might support non-Romanized characters in the future.
Also, think very VERY carefully about the URL you choose. Because, once you sign up for it, you can’t change or transfer it!
Get … Set … Go!

boy.. i am excited about this !
