Blyk, The Free Mobile Service Provider To Enter Indian Market
Blyk, a UK based mobile virtual network operator is reportedly preparing to venture into the Indian market, now what is so important about this news is that Blyk offers free mobile services in UK exclusively for 16-24 year olds.
Blyk generates it’s revenue by sending targeted ad’s to it’s customers and in return offers a monthly share of £15 credit to customers on texts, calls, multimedia messaging and data in the UK. It has around 200 brands on board in the UK from leading advertisers such as Unilever PLc and Microsoft Corp.
The company was so successful in UK,in April,2008 Blyk announced that they had reached their twelve month target of 100,000 clients six months ahead of schedule, last year it also announced a €40 million of investment to support its operations and international expansion.
“Discussions are ongoing with potential partners. So yes, we do intend to enter India but cannot comment yet on the timing,” said Blyk spokesperson Ann Sarimo, as quoted on Livemint.
If Blyk enters India it will be the first and only mobile operator offering free services to it’s subscribers.
Though mobile ad-market is only about 100 crore rupees in India more than 350 million mobile subcribers makes it largely un-tapped and it will not only be exciting to see subscribers get free minutes but also how Blyk, if enters India, will effectively implement it’s targetted ad-strategy.

I read about this service a long time ago & it really very successful in the UK. My friend was studying its model & was planning to implement it in India but Blyk coming to India means he is on the right track.
The success of Blyk business Model depends on how effectively they can reach the right target audience, i wonder how easy it’ll be to repeat such business model in a developing country…we shall see…
