The rise and fall of Bing – SeeSaw between No.2 and No.3 Search Engine In The World
Microsoft Bing grabbed second position dethroning Yahoo in the search engine race in less than a week of its launch on 4th June grabbing 15.64% of the market share while Yahoo dropping to third position with 10.22% ,Google being the unrivalled No.1 with 71.47%. We have been following closely with the updates on Bing and Microsoft seems to be working hard to grab the search market share. Yahoo seems to be too slow in the search engine race and is giving up easily to Bing. Google and Microsoft are continuously launching new features to continue in the race but Yahoo seems to be intentionally dropping out by not making any new moves to continue in the race. However Google was the one who lost its major share that contributed to the growth of Bing, Google dropped from 80% market share to 71% giving around 9% to Bing.

Microsoft Bing seemed to be on the fast track, grabbing user attention much faster than expected. Microsoft expected Bing to be at Number 2 position within 5 years but unexpectedly it rose to No 2 position within a week, Heck an achievement for Bing. According to Steve Balmer “It’s going to take us a while, It’s a five-year task” .
What was needed to be seen, Will Microsoft Bing be able to hold to No 2 Position as this can be just a jitter and people may be trying out Bing search and may move back to Yahoo or Google if they don’t like Bing in the long run. Microsoft have been spending heavily on the promotion and advertisement of Bing and users do try new things for a couple of days seeing its huge popularity but may shift back to their favorite engine if not finding Bing good and capable enough

It didnt take too many days to answer the question: No Bing was not able to continue to hold its No 2 position for long and has dropped back to No 3 position having less than 5.65% market share on 7 June and could only hold to the No 2 for 1 day, 4th June according to StatsCounter. As we commented that this spike may be just due to heavy marketing and inquisitiveness among the users which they generally have for any new product. Bing is not able to sustain the users and most users have moved back to Google with more that 80% of search market share.
Now comes another big question : Why are not people sticking to bing?
- Is Bing not able to perform fundamentally- Anything wrong with the search results?
- Are people too addicted to Google and not in a mood to switch?
- Idea of making search more decision oriented not liked by people, Do they think someone is trying to impose their decisions on them?
Would love to know our readers analysis on the same..
Maybe Steve Ballmers comment above of 5 years to become a no.2 player will be true afterall..

Bing was no. 2 for just a day, and no. 3 is not a big deal as live.com is being redirected to Bing now. And live.com has always been no.3!
But Bing does hold promises .. its a complete product from MS
Yes I agree that Bing hold promises but on the other hand it also need to improve it search queries make search better fundamentally to compete with Google and Yahoo.
