Now Mobile Goes Binging – m.bing.com

After the launch of Bing last week Microsoft launched Bing for Mobile devices. This version of Bing is customized for mobile devices so that search results can fit into the small screen, still be user friendly and provide most of the functionality Bing is providing.

 Bing Mobile

To use Bing on your mobile just point your browser to m.bing.com and you will be taken to the Bing website customized for mobile. If its your first time on Bing mobile it will ask your location and you have to set the location as your Home,Office or others. This will help Bing customize the results according to your location.People generally use mobile search to find things like nearby restaurants, movies and having set the location will help bing in returning relevant results to your queries. It also helps searching locations near to my locations and with the helps of maps it can help in finding the directions to reach my destination but the accuracy and detail of maps depends on the region maps are accessed for. Bing is still in beta stage and some functionality like maps etc are not fully functional in many areas.

Some simple search queries seems working fine on Mobile Bing but functionality which Bing is boasting about seems non-existent on the Mobile version. There is no equivalent of Bing Travel on mobile. A search for travel from India to NewYork seems too hard for Mobile Bing and it gives some haphazard results. Same query on Google Mobile produces much better results and the first result itself is the flight from India to New York.

Shopping functionality seems to be somewhat working on Bing Mobile but it seems that if Bing can find any shopping item corresponding to your search query it will try to drive you to shopping website even if you never asked that you wanna go shopping. Suppose I want more information on what a “Digital SLR” is ,A search in Bing will pump out results primarily related to Digital SLR shopping even if I never asked for it. However on google I get the definition of a Digital SLR, I am not that lazy who cant type “shopping” keyword when I want to shop for one.

It seems that Bing Mobile is just Bing in a wrapper with lot of missing functionalities in comparison to Bing desktop and its most boasted features like Travel and Shopping are not doing great on Mobile. Many other sites like MobileCrunch are giving a thumbs down to Bing Mobile and we also have the same opinion about Bing Mobile.
