Way2SMS launches email alerts on mobile

Way2sms, the popular nation wide free SMS provider has now launched Email alerts on mobile! Through this you can get alerts about incoming e-mails in your mobile inbox at no cost. The alerts are limited only to sender’s address and e-mail subject as message content is currently not sent in the alerts. This helps you to get a hint about incoming mails rather than taking the pain of frequently checking mail box.

The service also provides various preferences to customize receiving your e-mail alerts. Although you will have to do some minor tweaks in order to get this working

How to use it?

  • Login to your e-mail service i.e Yahoo or Gmail, and go to settings —->>Forwarding and POP/IMAP in Gmail case and select (Forward a copy of incoming mails) and type in your way2sms e-mail address .
  • Now save the changes and visit way2sms.com —–>> settings —–>> mail alerts and click on activate email alerts. You can also receive particular e-mails as alert by just forwarding all e-mails to the way2sms address.

One can also choose preferences like receiving e-mail alerts from particular addresses, contact list or all mails. The timing of alerts can also be tweaked in terms of day time or week days.

The service is very fast and I started getting instant alerts within a gap of 30 seconds. You don’t need any GPRS service for this and activation is very prompt! The service may be useful for people who wants to get notified about important e-mails as ason as it arrives.

It is still to been seen how far this new service is going to be adopted. The company is not embedding any ads in the e-mail alerts the costs incurred to set up the required servers might just be too much. But the news has surely caught people’s attention as a nice innovation in combining the email and SMS communication platforms!

  2. This is really helpful feature for those who don’t want to spend on any email plans. I tried this for Gooseberry and it worked. Only thing there it is not free.

Way2SMS is supposed to be free which might tilt the scales for a greater adaption. Read more at : http://www.indianomics.com/2009/05/31/read-email-without-a-gprs-phone-with-way2sms/
