Abducted son reunties with mom after 27 years via Facebook and Google
A British woman by the name of Avril Gube’s son was abducted 30 years ago by the father, who then fled off to Budapest. But in a miraculous turn of events, the son and mother have been reunited – all thanks to the popular social networking website, Facebook!
3 years old Gavin was abducted by the father on the pretext of taking him to the Blackpool Zoo in 1982, actually taking the son with him to Budapest, defying a court order, and Avril never heard from Gavin again. Until recently, when Gube’s sister, Beryl Wilson typed the boy’s name into Google and stumbled upon the link of the Facebook profile of Gavin.
She then sent him a message and several weeks passed before Gavin logged into Facebook again. “I called my sister when I heard back from Gavin and told her to sit down,” Wilson said. “All I heard after that was screaming.“
Gavin, whose dad died three years ago, flew over to visit his mother at her home in Poole, Dorset. “I couldn’t sleep. I just sat waiting for him to arrive. Even though it has been nearly 30 years, when I first saw him, I recognized him,” she said. “He has my eyes.“

Gavin is happily married and has three children. He works as a Budapest plasterer, and incidentally, he can’t speak a word of English. Avril is now desperate to meet his three children – Anastasia, ten, Thomas, seven, and little Angelina.
So is this another small win for Social Media? You bet!
