Acrobat.com Presentations – A new leader in online collaboration?

Adobe has launched its very own online presentations tool called Acrobat Presentations at Acrobat.com which looks set to take on to the already established names in the space like Google Docs and Zoho Show etc. Acrobat Presentations has some things in common with its competitors but its main focus right now looks to impose its presence in collaborative presentations. The feature is still in the labs and beta phase, with many features yet to come.

acrobat

This service like all other Acrobat.com stuff before is built for the web where different members of a creative team can edit and work on the same presentation together! Just like the Buzzword, Adobe’s online word processor, this online tool has been built using the popular Adobe Flash format and is hence pretty sleek and easy to work in any browser.

One good thing about the service which I liked was the fact that it’s not just a cheap imitation of a desktop app with collaboration forced into it, but the makers have put in genuine work into making it a rich web application. Also, all members working on a presentation can see all the slides that are currently being edited so that the chances of overwrites and editing faults are eliminated. Here’s a list of some of the key features which sets it apart from others:

  • You can bundle different items together so that changes in that group remain in proportion.
  • You can see what others are working on so that no overwriting conflicts arise. This is going to be a very important feature in making collaboration more user-friendly.
  • You can upload Flash FLV videos (less than 10MB size) into your presentations with an auto play feature.

Some of the features that the Adobe team is working hard to provide its exciting users include:

  • The ability to import, edit and export PowerPoint presentations.
  • You would also be able to make charts and graphs in the future.

The service is completely free with no limits on storage size, though you can expect to see paid versions in the future. You can sign up for Acrobat.com Presentations here.

  4. Hi Aditya,

Have you ever tried Microsoft Office Live Workspace? Not only can you work in the PowerPoint format, but it syncs with the entire Microsoft Suite to offer all sorts of great tools that can be collaborative if you want. Workspace offers 5 GB of FREE storage, and, with a plug in, you can back up Office docs automatically online.

    Cheers,

Hey Ya I have tried MS Office Live Workspace, it’s an extension of MS office on the desktop to online medium.

But the rich medium, with a diff. set of functions (adobe) in adobe’s counterpart is a nice and welcome change :)
