Twitter Merchandise: Birth Of A Twitter Business Model?

Up till now, Twitter has kept shy of officially endorsing any services or tools that promote user tweets in wearable merchandise format. However as of 18th May, 2009 Twitter has partnered with Threadless and launched a user generated crowd sourced service called Twitter Tees by Threadless. The Twitter thinking tank has clearly taken a tentative baby step in trying to formulate the first clear business model for the revolutionary micro-blogging service.

Companies like TWItoShirt and Twitshirt has been providing users excellent services in creating merchandises from Twitter updates in the past. Status King even offers users to print their favourite Facebook status updates on t-shirts. And AddMerch goes one step forward and lets you print Tumblr blog pictures etc. On the other hand,  at Twitter Tees, the most interesting part is the cash that the users involved get to take home. Let’s have a look at how it works.

After the whole process A gets a whopping $360 in cash and $140 in Threadless gift certificate credit whereas B walks away with $100 in hand and $40 in gift certificates! And C of course gets to wear his favourite Tweet. It’s a win win for everyone. How cool is that, eh?

What’s in it for Twitter?

There’s no official gupshup as to how big a piece Twitter will be getting from all this, but one thing for sure is that this deal is gonna be good for both the parties seated at the table. It looks as if Twitter is testing the waters to take the long awaited plunge and come up with a profitable business model.

So what are you waiting for?

Oh yeah, these awesome guys ship in T Shirts almost anywhere in the whole wide world. So the next time you see a cool and hip Tweet you would like to submit, just hop over to Twitter for Tees and start contributing! And if you want me to vote for your creative Tweets, I am just a comment away! Get cracking.
