Migration to GMail – Now Simplified

gmail
Still stuck with other email services providing lame search, crawling like dead speed, unwilling to migrate fearing loosing contacts and old emails. The answer to most of the migration issues have been put forward by Google to help people migrate to GMail without loosing a single contact or mail.

Gmail Import

GMail has published a new feature with the help of which users can migrate their email accounts from other mail servers like Rediff, Yahoo, Hotmail, AOL etc to Gmail. Users can import all of their contacts, old mails and new messages from their current mail service providers to GMail. Users can auto-forward their emails to the GMail account and they can also apply ‘labels’ on the emails from a particular account.

This feature will be available to all new users and will be rolled to old accounts soon, as this is a bulky process and Google doesn’t want to put heavy load on their servers degrading performance.  This feature will be available under Settings -> Accounts and Import  tab in Gmail.  Business and Schools using Gmail won’t be able to see these options as of now.

According to Gmail engineer Chad Parry ”It’s been easy to auto-forward all your Gmail messages to any other service, and now it’s a little easier to go the other direction too”.

Current moves of Google , like this and the one in  search domain shows the effort made to wipe out competition in every possible way.
