The regulatory body for Telecom TRAI and the association that represents the Internet and Mobile companies in India IAMAI have both made changes at the helm.
IAMAI has appointed Shailesh Rao, MD - Google India, as its chairperson and Ambareesh Murty, country manager of eBay India, as vice-chairperson for 2009-2010.
The earlier chairman of IAMAI was Sanjeev Bikhchandani of Naukri (Infoedge Ltd).
TRAI on the other end has appointed Dr J.S. Sarma as its Chairman. Before joining TRAI, Dr Sarma was holding the post of Member in Telecom Disputes Settlement and Appellate Tribunal (TDSAT). He was earlier Chairman of the Telecom Commission.
Both these bodies play a vital role in the upliftment of the Internet and Mobile space. It would be important that now with a new stable government these bodies are able to help roll out regulations and get reforms from the government that benefit the industry at large.
