Will Windows 7 Provide The Ultimate Experience?

Window XP users have till date shown stiff resistance in adopting VISTA instead of old Windows XP.Microsoft has every reason to believe that this time its offering would strike a chord with SOHO users and would provoke them to move.

Microsoft has also confirmed that windows 7 will be launched by end of 2009 instead of earlier 2010 promise, especially to bank on heavy christmas sales in U.S.

Requirements:

Windows 7 will need at least 512 MB RAM. But users would need at least 1GB RAM to get features like Aero, the graphical interface that was also provided in Vista. With the exception of Windows 7 Starter, all editions will support both 32-bit and 64-bit  processors .

Features:

Windows 7 would make things so simple that even  novice users would be able to do some serious tweaking themselves. For e.g Now users will be able to snap their windows to any size, they have more options to customize their system tray with pin-up feature for desktop Icons.

Most important of all Windows 7 would provide backward compatibility with XP which would help it to garner XP audience back by solving backward compatibility Issue earlier absent in VISTA.

Windows will  completely overhaul Calculator, WordPad, and Paint applications.Calculator will now incorporate real world uses with many availability of many types.

The bootup time taken by windows 7 is said to be 20% faster than Vista.

Windows 7 will include Internet Explorer 8 and Windows Media Player 12.In Europe it may ship rival browsers in its final release due to anti-competitive charges and would provide user more options to completely disable windows app with third party competition.

Windows Photo Gallery, Windows Movie Maker, and Windows Mail have been removed from Windows itself, but they are available in a separate package called Windows Live Essentials.

Many new items would also be added to the control panel, including clear type text tuner, troubleshooting, workspaces centre, location and other sensors, credential manager and system icons.

Windows 7 would also have security centre called Windows Action Centre encompassing both security and maintenance of the computer.

Licensing:

Windows 7 will be available in six different editions, but only Home Premium and Professional will be widely available at retail. The other editions are focused at other markets, such as the developing world or enterprise use.

According to Microsoft, the features for all editions of Windows 7 will be stored on the machine, regardless of what edition is in use. Users who wish to upgrade to an edition of Windows 7 with more features can then use Windows Anytime Upgrade to purchase the upgrade, and unlock the features of those editions.

Although Microsoft has tried to make the user interface more interactive with Windows 7 it could still be termed as ‘old wine in new bottle” as through windows 7 it is an attempt to exclude all the Issues faced in Vista like low and backward compatibility.

It is clearly an attempt to project Windows 7 as a potent XP alternative and may find Users as widescale support for XP won’t be available after some time.

  1. Windows 7 is looking great. I never buy a new OS when it releases, I upgrade when it comes pre-installed on a new PC, but I think Windows 7 will be a first.

  2. Raghav, Thanks for the post. I was one of the early adopters of Vista! And just live everyone else, haven’t been very impressed with it.

Initial reviews seem to be very positive. Personally, I really like the faster boot up time.

Isn’t MSFT going to release a special version for Netbooks and tablet PCs?
