MVAS Players Define Code Of Conduct Policies

IAMAI has issued a diktat for the orderly movement of Mobile VAS players. The code of conduct agreement issued by IAMAI will help in scrutinizing mobile VAS players in times of mishaps and would help in providing more qualitative services to Subscribers and Telcos.
The code of conduct defines following regulations:
- All members to abide by TRAI regulations on DND and similar directives.
- All Push based promotional services to be strictly transmitted between 8 am and 9 pm only.
- Clear transperency in advising charges by intimating the user prior to billing.
- Formation of customer rederessal section in mobile VAS companies.
- Strict Adherence to Intellectual Property Rights as per current laws in India.
- Provide best services to telecom operators in terms of agreed quantity and quality.
Although these guidelines are already prescribed by TRAI ,IAMAI being a association of mobile VAS operators would make it easy to hold accountable, the companies defying the guidelines.
According to IAMAI companies like OnMobile Global, ACL Wireless, ActiveMedia Tech, CanvasM, NetxCell, Mauj, Indiatimes.com, Webaroo, i2i telesource, Buongiorno, Saharanext and Mypopkorn have signed the code of conduct till date.
Even the withdrawal of the controversial SMS contest 6UP introduced in the IPL, would also echo the need of moral ethics in Indian VAS space. This withdrawal of a high earning potential VAS contest sets a precursor for TRAI to come out with a solution to stop abuse of subscribers who are being exploited blantantly by Mobile VAS players.
Currently Mobile VAS contribution to Telcos topline isĀ in single digit but going forward the ratio will increase significantly. The poor-redressal of complaints for services provided by Telcos directly or through third party is also a matter of gray area.
The need to regulate mobile VAS industry is being echoed frequently as it is increasing at a very high rate and is also a high margin industry. The need also arises as this industry constitutes major chunk of Subscriber complaints.

How about a code of conduct for mobile network operators (for the MVAS space)? At least an ethical code or something? The revenue share that operators keep to themselves is obscene and is strangling this market.
