Hulu Ties Up With Saavn To Stream Bollywood Movies – To Go International Soon

Hulu in a quest to satisfy global thirst for quality streaming content has announced that it would soon launch internationally and has also tied up deals with U.K.-based Endemol, big brother fame and Saavn, one of the leading distributors of Bollywood movies.

The content tie-up with Saavn would currently include 5 titles namely Sarkar(2005), Hera pheri(2000), Hulchul(2004), Dhaai akshar prem ke(2000) and Deewana(1992).

Saavn currently has various tie-ups in place with global media companies including Time Warner Cable, Cablevision, Verizon Wireless and Apple’s iTunes for its content library.

Hulu is a joint venture of News Corp and NBC along with Disney.Hulu is on a spectacular rise as it offers legal content with high quality streams. Hulu, till date is still available only to U.S-audiences although the group has proclaimed that it would soon launch the services in eight of the leading broadcasting markets across world (India ofcourse would be one of them we hope)

This addition of international content would not help it much in short term as Hulu currently restricts access to Non-U.S audience but may help it to attract audiences as and when it launch internationally. The huge NRI audience interested in these movies will form the current target audience for Hulu.

This deal also signifies the value Indian content holds for Online broadcasting giants and its demand out of India as well and may signal similar deals in the pipeline. This would also provide a significant monetization platform to content owners as Hulu specializes in streaming full length content rather than small clips by Youtube.
