Twitter’s New Advanced Search System Gives Everything That I Ever Needed – Well Almost

I just spent the half hour that just went by wondering if this is an exclusive piece of news – but no luck. Anyway, the news itself is that Twitter now has a more powerful and better advanced search option,  for even the regular search.twitter.com page looks different from last night. I checked up on some of the popular blogs and on Twitter’s official blog as well bu there is no update on this anywhere, so maybe I am just a tad late to notice.

New or not, this is a crazy addition to my list of Twitter research tools at the least. For those who read WATBlog regularly might be aware of how much I think and speak about Twitter as the next big thing in search and this from the time it bought over Summize (the original search.twitter). Now with the advanced search page that looks like this, it just further validates my point of how intuitive and handy can Twitter search get- heck it can even search whether tweets are positive or negative for a brand (though I must admit this particular feature needs a LOT of improvement).

Some of the new features (again new for me) that I see are the location based search. It is a godsend for people like me who need to target specific people from specific location for our clients. I can even set distance from a particular location to cover, like in this case Mumbai, and it also returns results from 100km around Mumbai. People can use this feature to find discounts, and offers in a particular location say happy hours in Delhi, and if anyone tweets about it, you will know. All the more reason for brands to be on Twitter.

Oh, I suddenly feel a sense of empowerment, or something to that effect, like as if you can search anything anywhere anytime. Imagine, what do people think about McDonalds in Thailand. You don’t need to imagine now you can go search.

Alright, not getting carried away, obviously how well a search can turn up also depends on Twitter users Tweeting about what we search. However this is quite a nifty tool, and if you are a digital marketer wondering how your client’s brands are being taken in by the tweeblic, then this should be on your dily bookmarks.

In any case nobody had written a post like this when I looked up (there might be, but I didn’t find one), so figured I might as well write about it.. old or new it is still a kickass tool.. and that was the bigger point of the post :)
