MapmyIndia launches New Version of Maps Covering Pan-India

MapmyIndia,India’s leading map and GPS navigation services provider, recently announced the launch of Version 3.0 of MapmyIndia maps. The new maps now covers 90% of pan-india population through 401 cities, 837695 kms of roads, 411625 town and villages and around 10 lakh points-of-interest.
The maps will be available on MapmyIndia.com and MapmyIndia Navigators. MapmyIndia also claims that the current version of maps would offer the most comprehensive and detailed view till now.
The MapmyIndia map data is said to be collected through vast coverage and state of the art map processing technology. In India other major players include Satnav and Genesys int along with international players like Teleatlas and TomTom.
The company has also announced the launch of an innovative exchange offer where Users of GPS navigators – MapmyIndia Navigators or any other brand – can exchange their existing hardware for a brand new MapmyIndia Navigator, loaded with digital maps of 401 cities. GPS navigators bought abroad but not working in India because of lack of accurate maps can also exchange their current hardware under this offer.
Worldwide GPS and PND navigational systems is emerging as a sunrise sector and mostly catapulted to the big league after acquistion of Navteq by Nokia for $8.1 Billion.
RNCOS in its latest research report said that the global shipment of GPS-enabled devices such as PNDs, GPS-enabled mobile phones and smart phones is forecasted to exceed 700 Million Units by growing at a CAGR of more than 24% through 2013.
The GPS and PND (Personal Navigational Devices) makers are also partnering with handset makers and online portals to offer their integrated solution which now derives a major chunk of their revenues.
The availability of Quality maps and India emerging as a major technology provider in navigational services may see boom-time for navigational services in India.

I have no idea how 411625 covers 90% when 638000+ villages & 245K Gram Panchayats in india! But somethings better than nothing!
They serious need to start working with startups, at the moment do a very bad job trying to work with the smaller guys.

By 90% they means population not the land coverage…
I’m amazed and happy to say that garmin products is of high quality albeit the price is also a bit high but it’s worth paying.
