Mobile Internet Page Views Grow 153% YOY: Opera Report

Opera released it’s quarterly  report on the mobile internet usage around the world and the highlights for India include 153% page view growth and 53% Unique user growth compared to March 2008.

While Google.com and orkut retained the top spots, the mobile gaming site Gamejump.com fell of India’s top 10 list while Getjar.com the free app and game site climbed on to the list.

The list of top 10 sites with number of unique users is:

1. google.com
2. orkut.com
3. yahoo.com
4. gmail.com
5. rediff.com
6. wikipedia.org
7. songs.pk
8. peperonity.com
9. my.opera.com
10. getjar.com

and the top 10 handsets are

1. Nokia 6300
2. Nokia N73
3. Sony Ericsson K790i
4. Sony Ericsson K750i
5. Nokia 6233
6. Sony Ericsson K550i
7. Nokia N70
8. Sony Ericsson W760i
9. Nokia 5310
10. Nokia 6120c

It is interesting and for sure not surprising to see google occupy three of the top 10 spots  songs.pk, peperonity and getjar imply that entertainment still rules the mobile internet usage in the country.

Though opera might not reflect the exact state of the mobile internet (with a very valid assumption that not every user accesses the web using opera  including me), but it is for sure a very strong indicator of the usage pattern.

With the advent of 3G and increasing mobile penetration I am pretty sure we will get to see bigger growth number’s next year.
