Google Hopes to Go Viral With Chrome – Launches 11 Videos on YouTube

It’s nearly 8 months since we first spoke about Chrome at WATBlog and it nearly said everything you needed to know about Chrome. Not that it is a downer in anyway, but we didn’t speak about how Google was going to market it. Frankly we didn’t know and on the other hand I don’t think anyone was really curious about it then, at least us geeks.

Anyway, come to think of it, how is Google planning to market Chrome and do it fast. It is a very competitive market and the unlikely hero in this space is Microsoft with IE.  And to that end Google hasn’t spared much chances of using its properties to invite users to use Chrome as their browser. 8 months down the line, Chrome now has around a percent fo the browser market dominated by IE, Firefox and Opera otherwise (not to forget Safari).

In a bid to acheive the feat of capturing the largest piece of the pie, Google is going social with its most potent viral media platform – Youtube.  Google has launched a series of 11 videos made to attract users to pay attention to chrome. Youtube has its huge traffic base and instead of just a link to invite people to use a new software, Google can actually make the interaction better, to send their idea of better browing through Chrome home.

Google had earlier launched Chrome Experiments to showcase what all does Javascript and Chrome lets you do together. It was targeted at the designers and geek crowd and went fairly viral in the niche. So trust Google to pull this one of as well.

However, just blogslike WATBlog blogging won’t help matters, (i mean tech oriented blogs) it has to get mainstream in its virality and that will begin to show in the next couple of days itself. The good part is the results will there for everyone to see – X number of views to X number of market share for Chrome, so that way this is a good case study for Social Media marketers as well.
