A Dose of Inspiration This Saturday – 5 Inspiring Websites
I saw a friend of mine asking for information on some high value entertaining blog sans the regular Internet Humor. Though this post doesn’t quite meet his requirement its basis is formed on his question. I figured a lot of us might be looking for something new to read and gain from besides the regular websites we wander to online. In that belief I share a few websites that I find really inspiring, sometimes just the way they are designed, sometimes the content. I usually tend to find inspiration for a lot of things from graphics and web design, so these are predominantly sites which cater to that niche.
Smashing Magazine -
When I first began reading Smashing Magazine it had close to 10,000 subscribers, and to say it launched only a few months prior to my first blog then. It now has over 100,000 subscribers and is my most liked recommendations for many friends. Some of the posts are epic and it has one of the most active community on the web for designers, developers and photographers.
Noupe -
Another kick ass blog especially for blog and blog designers in particular. Works on the same lines as Smashing and often presents a wide range of inspiring collection of works from around the web. It delivers stylish and dynamic news for designers and web-developers on all subjects of design, ranging from; CSS, Ajax, Javascript, web design, graphics, typography, advertising & much more.
Zenhabits -
Productivity and life hacks is what Zen Habits is all about. Leo Babauta started this blog in 2007 and is one of those success stories that unfold right in front of us. The about page introduces Zenhabits as – one of the Top 100 blogs on the Internet, and covers: achieving goals, productivity, being organized, GTD, motivation, eliminating debt, saving, getting a flat stomach, eating healthy, simplifying, living frugal, parenting, happiness, and successfully implementing good habits. I have found a lot of inspiring blog posts on Zen habits and when one finds a face and voice which is honest and transparent as Leo’s it has a deeper impact. Heavily recommended for those who want kick start a goo lifestyle while kicking out some of those stupid habits.
The Morning News -
This is what I gave my friend to read on Facebook (the one who asked the question above). I found The Morning News sometime towards the end of last year and as a guy who likes long reads, essays and stuff this was like those big stone creations from Hokey Pokey (those in Mumbai might know..). It is not a blog not a regular one at least, it uses Movable Type for instance
. Nevertheless for those who get inspiration from some excellent writing, those who read to get inspired and those who get inspired from some good use of Typography will love this site.
Fubiz -
Originally a french site, there is also a Babelfish translated English version. It’s tagline itself goes as ‘daily dose of inspiration’ so this one fits perfectly with this post’s idea. Fubiz brings out some killer posts on advertising, design, graphic, inspiration, motion, music, photography and technology. Initially I never saw the translated English version and used to browse the site scouting the numerous photographs and reading with my limited knowledge of French and it still was entertaining enough to get me back often. Good site, good resource.
Creattica Daily -
Creattica Daily describes Creattica daily as a site of daily news and links for creatives and designers. We cover a broad range of creative inclinations from graphic to product design, interactive to motion, advertising to articles. It basically is a more glorified version of Tumblr but extremely useful to find new stuff. What helps it is the fact the company behind it – Envato has a good standing amongst Freelancers, designers and developers online given their portfolio of top blogs covering these niches. So it automatically gives Creattica a thriving community of users and contributors and hence makes it a very good resource to find new inspiring stuff online.
There you go, here my 5, wait there are 6, sources of inspiration online. Most of them are popular enough to already have quite a few of you reading them, nevertheless for those who don’t I hope you have found some very good resources to hang around on the web now. Drop in some sites that you go to for inspiration often below.
