After extensively testing its ‘comment reply via email feature’ in the closed beta, WordPress.com has released the features for all its users. This simple improvement to the current commenting work flow has already started generating some rave reviews across the internet and is being seen as one step closer to bridging the divide between mailing and blogging.

There are two things to enable this feature; first, make sure email notifications for comments are turned on and second, select the ‘Enable sending comment replies via email’ option. All of these items are on the Settings > Discussion page.
And you are done!
This means that users can now response to comment-notification emails and the reply would appear directly in the comment string. Last September Automattic, the company behind the popular blogging platform acquired IntenseDebate, a blog commenting plugin that works on almost every blogging platform. This was followed by the much hyped about (deservedly) 2.7 beta which has successfully integrated cool commenting features like ‘comment from dashbord’ and ‘threaded comments’. And now all that remains to be seen is how all these would mesh together on a common platform? Though, it looks as if WordPress has pulled this one off!

Excellent information, have been meaning to blog about this myself for some time, but you beat me to it.
