Adult Content Now Censored On SecondLife

Its time for some ethics to come into play, the largest virtual world SecondLife is now censoring the adult content and putting regulations on  where and how the adult content can be displayed. Linden Lab parent company Second life is planning to create another virtual continent for the users who are submitting adult content and users will have to move to the new virtual continent unless they purchase their own land in the original continent. Linden Labs are also planning to put some strict norms for adult content and users can only register after verification of credit card information or after passing through the Linden Labs filtering system.

Second Life

It will be great for the users , advertisers and  educational institutions who want to remain away from the adult content and it will help in increase in the number of users joining Second life who were just shying away due to increase in adult content.

As everybody is aware that adult industry is a big business from ages, Linden Labs can make better profits by selling virtual assets at a higher price leading to increase in profits and also not disturbing the users who want to remain away from the adult content.

You have it exactly backwards. The content filtering in the viewer client is going to make it harder for new residents to find the “fun stuff” they are looking for, and they will leave. Very few people log on strictly for business or educational purposes and even they probably go to a party or a nightclub now and then. They won’t be able to find any of this stuff because will be hidden from them.

Because the implementation is so very poor, and the blocked word list is so very long and ridiculous, it’s going to make it very hard to find a lot of things that have nothing to do with sex or anything “adult”. Two words – breast cancer. Enough said. Even the choice of the Lindens to use “AO” to abbreviate Adult Oriented (when we all know it means animation override) is beyond stupid. What does that say to you? To me it says CLUELESS!

This is a disaster. Just wait until they release that garbage. They are going to have a nightmare on their hands. Again.

As the other grids develop and there are other options available, Linden Labs is going to end up with ONLY business and educational users. Maybe that is the plan. They have every right to do what they like with their business, but they had better let us take our content out of SL. Until all of those hypothetical users all log on to the new squeaky clean grid, they might want to do a little more to retain the current resident base.

I think they either fundamentally don’t understand the users and what we want, don’t care, or are about to be bought out by IBM, Sun, Microsoft, etc., and this is a condition of the deal.

I’m excited. It should be very entertaining to see how fast they can back up when the “poop” hits.
