Social Media Twist to Elections Online: BlogAdda.com Announces a Social Media Aggregator

Over the past week, we have been inundated with news of election related sites news here at WATBlog. Come to think of it, In.com has changed its main site to IBNPolitics. So much so that I had almost given up on keeping track of such pieces now. However, many of you already know my love for social media, and when Blog Adda came up with this announcement I couldn’t help but notice.

BlogAdda.com announced the launch of a new site http://indianelections.blogadda.com focused on providing online readers with up-to-date information from the Social Media on Indian Elections 2009. The site basically aggregates blog posts from Indian blogs, Youtube videos, Flickr photos of elections, and even real time twitter updates.

So I go check the site out and frankly expecting something very innovative. Now fortunately or unfortunately I meet with an Alltop clone and it left me dissapointed. I have made such a site myself actually (Alltop clone not an election site) and therefore I feel the let down. The resource as such is very good, and in fact does serve a good purpose as well, but purely the fact that anyone else could have also made the exact same site puts it down for me. What’s the USP here, just being the first to do it?

Anyway, let the lack of any visible innovation be left aside, and let us appreciate the attempt at being different from other site. In fact coming to think of it now, this might be the most economical at the same time the biggest load of election related content among all the other efforts we have been reading about till now.

  1. We have collected the resumes of as many politicians as possible to help people know more about their candidates. You can see their profiles at http://www.jobsbyref.com/know-your-politician.

This is our little contribution to this election.

  2. The Election Commission site states that in the previous General Elections, there were close to 350 million votes cast, the majority of which were from rural India. The last time such stats did the rounds, the number of Internet connections in India was 45 million. Assuming that’s the same, we’re talking about anywhere upwards of 30 million new votes cast this year if the Elections’ based blogs, websites and online campaigns work. So what remains to be seen, post April 30th is if these extensive campaigns can swing the votes of urban India in favor of either party. As opposed to Bareilly, Gandhinagar, Bellari and Amethi will Mumbai, Chennai, Delhi, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Pune, Kolkata, Gurgaon, Ahmedabad, Chandigarh and Noida decide the fate of the Lok Sabha?

  3. In.Com is not that much innovative overall
