IPL Mobile Game Downloads To Mint Money For Gaming Firms
Just recently we blogged about the mobile live streaming rights for IPL being won by Zenga Entertainment. Now given the magnitude and impact of IPL the first time around one can only expect things to get bigger this time around.
So its no surprise that mobile gaming companies like Nazara Technologies and Indiagames are looking to cash in on the hype by launching mobile games.
So who will launch which game?
Nazara Technology is set to launch games based on IPL league teams Delhi Daredevils and Deccan Chargers while lndiagames will be launching a game on Shahrukh Khan’s Kolkata Knight Riders. India games has also already launched 3D Twenty20 games for the iPhone targeting the international audience. Also as it is early days for the IPL expect atleast a dozen more games to crop up as the series progresses.
What are the games costing and priced at?
Typically each of these games take about 2 lakh rupees to develop and price range is typically Rs 10 (only three downloads), Rs 50 and Rs 99 (unlimited downloads).
How many downloads make a game a success?
A mobile game is considered successful when its downloaded more than 400,000 to 500,000 times.
What is the revenue share between game developers and operators?
The ratio is usually 30:70 where game developers keep 30% while operators keep 70 of the revenue.
Even though the revenue share seems skewed heavily in favour of the operator, game development firms would still be bullish about the revenues from these IPL games. Given the excitement and hype around the tournament I expect quite a few games to clock the 2-3 lakh mark with their downloads.
