The Obama Effect continues in the Indian Elections too. It is surprising to see that our very own tech-savvy politicians (pun intended) are turning to social media promotion. Till the promotions it was going fine; India had seen those banner ads and sites specially designed for the parties and leaders.
Now, the scenario changes a bit. Online Gaming industry has struck a brilliant idea by introducing free games for the people. Elections 2009 has in verity become an online business for various companies and they are getting good returns too. The Tribune published a news article a few days back wherein they mentioned how effectively can the fans and followers of leading national parties go onto the cyber space and play the electoral battle.
7Seas Technologies Limited, a Hyderabad-based gaming company, has developed a series of online political games on its official gaming portal Online Real Games. The games will have Elections 2009 as its backdrop and some of the top leaders in India will fight it out for the PM’s post. And, offcourse your real time strategy should be correct to decide the best PM for India.
L Maruti Sanker, MD of 7Seas Technologies says, “It’s raining subscribers for us, especially youth, and is a time to rake in more moolah“. He continued saying, “Every gaming company in India is now after developing political games for the reason being simple. It’s seasonal unlike other genre of casual online games and brings back the returns within 2-3 months. The market is going to be flooded with more such stuff“. For sure, this company has done their research pretty nicely.
The Online Gaming in India will soon become a trend to watchout for at the time of elections. Games2Win has followed suit with its Hyderabadi counterpart and came out with two political games Singh is King and Stock Market Suicide. The company has another innovative idea which they will implement soon by launching two more games Mascot Chimpoo and Poll for the youngsters in India who are on Orkut. Insite Digital, another Mumbai based firm have also invested around Rs 1.25 crores into the onlie gaming scene by bokking a domain name called “Indian Political League”, which might become the biggest game of the season.
Indian politicians have sooner than later realised that there lays a very intelligent India on the web. It is extremely important to target these people; because if some of the netizens get influenced by their policies or them as individuals, there lies a scope of promotion. From Sonia Gandhi to Rahul Gandhi, Sanjay Nirupam and L.K.Advani all have their own websites. Sachin Pilot, Priya Dutt and Milind Deora are pretty popular on social networking sites with thousands of followers on Facebook, Orkut and the likes. The other associations of parties in the online world can be read here.
As responsible citizens of a country, I am asking all the readers a question – Does it make sense to come up with online games and social media promotion and lose sight of the real problems of our country ?
I don’t think so. We blog about here on topics which are related to Web, Advertising and Technology; and this piece of news is actually the most talked about nowadays. But, somewhere I think, some of us should go and tell these politicians one golden rule of Marketing, i.e. – “If the product is not good, however much you promote, it is not going to succeed”.
Ain’t it true?

I am surprised that Zapak has not kept a game on this.
They have spend tons of money like a no brainer in the past and have disappeared out of the world now and in a more sardarji way promoting cricket scores. This is a thing that Alok has always been smart with,Money.
Those who have the brain do it, and those who do not, spend money and scream, they are great hahaha.
Watblog don’t delete this like you do always.
Thanks for your comment Ashish.
I appreciate your insights for Zapak. Even, I was unable to understand their strategy of shouting cricket scores.
Let us wish Zapak the best in their future endeavours
