Get a bride who looks like Aishwarya Rai!

Matrimony search couldn’t probably get shallower than the Facial Search utility launched by BharatMatrimony.com. They now enable you to find a bride who looks like Aishwarya Rai or Priyanka Chopra!

If this was launched as a fun Social Media application, BharatMatrimony could have really benefited from it. Users could have been made to add the pictures and send results to their friends. This could have been viral and fun and BharatMatrimony could have really benefited by saying – Matrimony search can be fun too.

I’d blogged (Who’s your celebrity look alike?) about something similar nearly 2 years back. It was a face recognition tool by MyHeritage and their service was highly blogged about. Mainly because it was fun and cool to share.

But at the end of the day, this product might actually work in the smaller cities. Especially for families which still want a pretty face as a bahu and don’t care about qualites like intelligence, hard-working, caring, honest etc. I guess its the Indian mentality which is at fault here for BM to actually launch such a utility. If they can actually make money of this…hats off to them!

As far as the results of the Facial Search are concerned…

Searched for: Bengali – Aishwarya Rai look alike :-)

You can see the results!

It seems this is a completely failure try from BM. I searched for Sameera Reddy look alike and the matches found were worst then the one you found for Ash. It considers only the hair style and the pose of the picture while finding the look alike..

excellent article man.. well written and well said… its the indian mentality which has given BM such insight after which they have gone ahead with this sh** idea … but it will work for sure.. atleast in the beginning..

The challenge here is to make the search results look closer to the celebrity. If they could do it, they could be winner. Whats wrong in deciding to go with “Aishwarya” look-alike having decent qualities. After all, its a matter of choice.

Kudos to the BM team for innovating Facial Search. Whethar it would click or not is a different thing.

I read this in the morning and I am still laughing:)
The release came in a bit before the actual date…1st April

Look, I am not saying that the idea is bad….but if you cant execute it correctly well, dont have it……

It would be a great app to have in fun social networking sites…or if really executed well…help producers find body doubles :)

    hahahahahaha….I am still laughing….

Looks does not equal character, behaviour, skills, likeability etc. All that apart I would think there is a good possibility for anyone or even BM to provide Marriage Photo service. Go to the BM office-cum-studio, choose the hair-styles you like and then get the photo, upload it to BM. So whenever there is a search, your result will show up. Any takers?

@@ this might actually work in smaller cities.
Why ?? if I may ask. Not sure about families but everyone wants a pretty face for their bride.
Personally, I think people in smaller cities are more traditional in their values and hence care more about the family background, culture match, caste, subcaste etc. than those in metros. People in metros in general tend to be more liberal. Hence these are the guys who are more prone to decide more by face value (in absense or any other strong criteria). Not trying to in favor of one over other, just factual.

Also, @@ I guess its the Indian mentality which is at fault here for BM to actually launch such a utility
Not sure whats the fault thingy being talked about in the above statement…. If wanting to have a pretty face is a faulty mentality, I am not sure.. Infact believe its pretty normal.

How incredibly shallow. This is another reason I am not a fan of Indian matrimonial sites. To my knowledge I don’t think American sites try to match you to people who look like Angelina Jolie or whatever.
