Wall Street Journal Now has an Indian online edition

The Wall street journal has launched an online Indian edition of WSJ.com which includes coverage from the New Delhi and Mumbai bureaus of Wall Street Journal.

A complement to the print newspaper, The Wall Street Journal Online was launched in 1996 and now It is commonly held to be the largest paid-subscription news site on the Web, with 980,000 paid subscribers in mid-2007.As of May 2008, an annual subscription to the online edition of the Wall Street Journal cost $119 for those who do not have subscriptions to the print edition.

It is also reported that WSJ is all set to launch its facsimilie edition in India next month, The soon to be launched fax version of newspaper is likely to be priced at Rs 30 a copy.

It does not involve any advertising revenue. According to the Indian policy on print media, facsimile editions of foreign newspapers cannot publish any local content or local advertising. However, media analysts say that even without the advertising revenue, the paper would be profitable, thanks to a higher cover price. Currently, HT Media Ltd’s business daily Mint has a content tie-up with WSJ, which will not be affected, said Uday Shankar, CEO Star India as quoted on business standard.

WSJ is contemplating launching a print version of Indian edition of the paper only if the government increased the FDI limit in newspapers from 26 per cent to 49 per cent.
