Topchalks.com – Attempts To Be Your Teacher Online – Our Review

Topchalks.com is furnished to provide audio-visual study materials, designed by the country’s few renowned teachers, for students of class 12th appearing for CBSE (Central board), PSEB( Punjab Board), and HSEB (Haryana Board) examinations. The materials are categorized in three sections – full subject material, chapter wise material and Test Packs. In case you are assuming topchalks to be an online portal where you can log in and get these materials for free, then let me break your assumptions – No, nothing comes for free and topchalks also follows this age old universal truth.

topchalks

Another addition to topchalks’ kitty is the audio-visual lecture for CAT aspirants. Apart from these, there are two other segments – SAT & IIT-JEE- under the ‘coming soon’ category.

Money Matter :

For one month’s usage, one subject’s full material on topchalks costs Rs. 299( exclusive of service tax), a single chapter costs Rs. 49 and a Test Pack is priced Rs. 99. The charges vary as the number of subjects increase and the duration for the accessibility to the resource extend.

Does topchalks have a place under the sun?

Agreed that Internet has invaded every part of Indian life, but India is yet to become America to allow easy Internet access to a 12th standard. The number of Internet users at that stage is less.

topchalks may argue that these study materials could be a savior when one misses one’s classes, but a sort of virtual class can do no good. topchalks, perhaps, is a result of impetuousness of thoughts. using CATscan  may not be that bad a choice for CATers  but for 12thies, our traditional mode of real classroom lectures and hard copies would prove more useful.  After all, from topchalks’ materials one can only hear voices and view few formulas and statements of a topic being explained but one cannot interrupt the saved audio-visual-only lecture to get a troubling doubt cleared. Only a real lecturer can do so. And for that one must be present in a concrete, real classroom with a teacher in flesh and blood.

And if your viewpoint does not match mine, you sure can take look at topchalks.com

I agree to the fact that, its too early to assume that class 12th students would be able learn on internet. I have my-self taught class XI and XII in coaching institutes during my college days. You really have to react to their faces and try to explain them in multiple ways so that all of them understand. It can’t be a non-interactive text/audit/video.

I am using topchalks.com for my 12th studies, and I feel mesmarized when I see what they have to offer, their teachers have actually taken the pain to explain everything in almost all the possible ways and even attempted to solve the possible questions one student can ask. Also if you look at the teachers profile, you will see these are the teachers who have been teaching for more then 10 years and they know what kind of question a student can ask and they have taken so many examples in explaining a concepts which leaves no room for any doubt. I personally thanks to the people who thought of something like this as I live at a far off place and I dont have access to such good teachers. kudos to TOPCHALKS.com

I wonder how many of you guys really understand whats going on in our country. Try hiring a candidate and if you can find one out of a thousand that is suitable, consider yourself lucky. If you were to believe the the information in their resumes then we ought to be years ahead of some of the most advanced nations the world. Are we?Granted that we have some great schools and many of them have great instructors but the word to focus on is “some”; very few I would say. And, if your experience has been otherwise do enlighten me. The point is not whether TopChalks or others like them are a 100% effective. I would venture to say that we need hundreds of more folks like them who atleast make an attempt to address the absolute nonsense of an education system we have in India. Don’t point to a select few but take a look at the hundreds of thousands of the rest. If you are one of the privileged few who have attended good schools and colleges, and if you can speak a few words coherently, would you take up a teaching position? Be honest now. If your “honest” answer is no then do not get intimidated and knock these guys just for the heck of it. Be a voice for folks like TopChalks, Learnnext, Educomp, Educase, ToppersLearnig, 24x7Guru and so on. These are the kind of folks who have what it takes to do something in order to get our country out of the crap that it is in. We have way too many armchair quarterbacks in our country; won’t do one bit of anything meaningful but trust them to have a negative opinion on everything.

    @ Sudhir Bajwa

I would be a voice for topchalks if only their online lectures were efficient enough. They have designed a pattern which isn’t very effective.
If the aforementioned dot coms are really out in the market to “get our country out of the crap that it is”, they should first begin from designing a pattern for the underprivileged category, rather than using web as a medium (in India having access to the internet is a privilege, especially for a 12thie)

And yes, i would love to take a teaching position. Honestly.

Suhani.. How do you know that the pattern is not “very effective”. My first exposure TopChalks was from an instructor/institution that is doing more for the underprivileged than you can imagine. Enlighten us all and suggest what you think ought to be done and how. I must have touched a nerve and I am glad that I did. If you do end up taking a teaching position, kudos to you as well.

    @ Sudhir

You are taking things too personally.

And I have done teaching in the past.

Well the fact of the matter is that today in this competitive world the student requires not to get in a school after school kind of a scenario where in while during the day student is in a class room and studying with 30-40 of his companions, and then due to the competitive pressue the parents force the student to go and attend the coching institutes “the so called” to be in the same situation what there are at school. The point here is that companies like topchalks are based on the idea of review, revise, practice. Not only that topchalks have got also a learning centre where a physical teacher is present to clear any doubts that arise in the mind of the student. I can understand why a teacher is not very convinced with the fact that these online portals are a big success, as it shuts their shop of coaching/tutions etc…Its hig time students and parents wake up and get freedom from these highly exhobitantly priced tutions/coaching.

I don’t understand one thing why are you all comparing topchalks or other like kaysons to live coaching classes. I am taking coaching as well as using kaysons, but I compare them to reading from a book or notes. honestly speaking both classroom has different advantage while this has other advantage.
For instance: I had never understood nomenclature in organic chemistry if though I never missed a class, these video come handy in such occasion. moreover coaching from a reputed teacher will cost 1,00,000Rs or more so you cannot expect the same benefit for 10000 to 12500, please be fare to them.
