Two Examples Of Marketing Campaigns That WORK On Facebook
Read an interesting article in the NY Times a couple of weeks back. It talked about the hurdles advertisers were facing on Social Networking sites…
Members of social networks want to spend time with friends, not brands.
A banner ad “is universally disregarded as irrelevant if it’s not ignored entirely.”
When advertisers invite members to come to pages dedicated to their products, they can attract visitors by investing in contests.
Came across 2 brands in India who have utilized this medium in the last month.
Indigo Nation – Wacky at Work
What did they do?
They started a group on Facebook and invited users to add wacky pictures of them at work.
How did this campaign fare?
412 members joined in and 119 photos were added.
Once a user joins a group or adds a photo – this activity is streamed as a ‘News feed’ across his friends circle.
Contests2win.com – All I Want For Christmas…
What have they done?
They’ve asked users to upload a video of them with their Christmas wish.
‘We wanted to try out something unique this Christmas,’ says Ekalavya Bhattacharya, Brand Manager at Contests2win.com. He adds,’We did not spend a single rupee for marketing this campaign. In 10 days we’ve managed to create sufficient buzz to prove to us that contesting on Social Networks will work.‘
The numbers are definitely not amazing or out of this world for the above campaigns, but it is definitely a start. A social media outreach strategy is a must have and soon we’ll see more and more companies on Social Networks, either in the form of branded Social Apps or by using other means.
