Exclusive: Tripmela.com Shuts Down – Puts Up Site For Sale On Ebay!
Tripmela.com which is a travel deals aggregator and which recently was in the news for launching Searchmela a hotels and airfare comparison tool has shut its operations and put up the site on Ebay for sale.
In an email to WATBlog Jared Blank the CEO of Tripmela informed us that Tripmela was shutting shop. He stated in his email to us “given all of the upheaval in the market, we’ve decided to close up shop. We’ve done everything we can, but we don’t see an end in sight to the slowing travel and advertising market, and we simply don’t have the cash to ride it out.”
Prior to starting Tripmela Jared was formerly a Senior Travel Analyst at Jupiter Research Was Senior Director of e-Commerce Marketing at Tommy Hilfiger. He started tripmela along with his co-founder Vikram Sehgal who was earlier the Research Director and Senior Analyst at Jupiter Research. Tripmela’s business model was about lead generation through travel newsletters and fare comparison which was a proven business in the US by the likes of Travelzoo.com. Tripmela had also built and opt-in email database of 80,000+ subscribers but was not able to monetize the same effectively.
For all those who want to know about what were tripmela’s plans can check out the embedded pdf below:
You can also download the pdf from here. Also one can read an interview of Jared talking about tripmela and its business model earlier this year.
