BharatMatrimony.com the matrimony portal which claims to have over 12 million registered members announced the launch of matrimony services on Airtel. Airtel has over 77 million mobile subscribers and bharatmatrimony’s matrimony services would now be available on Airtel Live the wap portal on all the GPRS enabled handsets using an airtel connection across the country.

According to Hindu, BSNL has made its dial-up connection, NetOne, available for free. Such a move by BSNL spurred a thought in me. What if dial-up connections are actually made free in India? Social entrepreneurship is fast growing popular and the opportunity in it is far beyond the buzz. Personally, I am of the opinion that growth in India will eventually move out of the big cities and happen int he rural confines of our country. I believe that the value waiting to be unlocked in our hinterlands is enoromous. Of course social entrepreneurship doesn’t just mean you have to work in villages. It is about empowering the underprivileged wherever they might be.
I hope the two buzzwords of our time social media and social entrepreneurship work together and grow to completely alter the value chain and entrepreneurial eco system for the better.
