After the online banner ads report IAMAI & IMRB have come out with another report this time on the Search Engine Marketing Industry in India. The report came out with the following interesting insights:

  • The total market revenue for SEM industry in India was estimated at around USD 112.5 Million in FY2007-08 but only 1/3rd of this is from domestic clients and 2/3rd is from the international clients having local as well as global presence.
  • International clients from South East Asia, USA, UK, Spain and Middle East form a large part of the client base for India.
  • The revenues are expected to increase by 100% by FY 2009-2010 to reach a mark of USD 225 million.
  • India is poised to be a global outsourcing hub for SEM (Search engine marketing) and the acute problem of lack of skilled manpower is the only roadblock.

The top companies exclusively working in the SEM space are Pinstorm and Communicate2. While Pinstorm expanded its reach by having an alliance with Lintas, Communicate2 sold equity to Aegis media to create global network and reach for its services. We also interviewed Mr.Vivek Bhargava on this strategic sale of equity some time back. This report does predict a promising future for SEM in India and the only thing holding people back seems to be the lack of skilled manpower which I think is the roadblock for growth for the entire new media industry and not only SEM.

  3. The exciting times are yet to come, , , the indian SEM industry will see much higher growth rate with google launching their international products like Google video/radio/print etc.

    just for the numbers, there are more than 2000 companies in india providing SEM solutions.

  4. Enjoyed your post, if SEM has taken off in India much like it has in the USA, are companies choosing to do it in house or outsource it. And will the trend change going forward. The SEM process is predicted moving in house in the States.
