In this release, Airtel claims it has 2,60,000 subscribers for its mobile commerce services. Airtel now plans to use the eCogNito end-to-end mobile commerce platform by XIUS-bcgi. This will be on a pilot basis under a memorandum of understanding between the two companies.
Sunny DeWakar, president of XIUS-bcgi’s eCogNito division,
“Our eCogNito solution offers Mobile Network Operators a quantum leap in operational efficiency of their revenue assurance systems by providing anytime, anywhere electronic talk time charging and bill payment in self service mode. Additionally, it simplifies and speeds up day-to-day mobile transactions and is an ideal replacement for smart cards that are currently being used for different applications.”
G.V. Kumar, CEO of XIUS-bcgi said,
“Bharti Airtel is one of the most successful and innovative telecom providers in India, enjoying a strong reputation for providing world-class services to its more than 50 million subscribers. We are pleased to have been chosen by this industry luminary to launch our latest m-commerce solution. As a reference carrier, Airtel will enable operators worldwide to realize how quickly and easily they can rollout their own m-commerce services.”
Airtel has been getting quite aggressive with its offering in the recent past. It has plans in IPTV and DTH already. Recently, it has been testing the 3G services, too.
Airtel also announced the launch of its Independence Day offer for its Delhi and NCR customers. Under this offer Airtel is giving away full talktime on a recharge of Rs.1947.
The recent Madhavan-Vidya Airtel ads on TV have also been received very well.
Will Airtel have the first mass-adopted deployment of m-commerce in India? Let’s see.
