Do you remember the “Sar Utha ke Jiyo” pension plan campaign from HDFC? Well, it seems ICICI Prudential also plans to empower the aged with the same motto, with the help of an NGO named Dignity Foundation. As the Hindu Business Line reports, this joint initiative has resulted in the formations of a portal called DignitySecondCareers.org which aims to “provide the retirees a platform to explore opportunities that will enable them to continue to utilize their expertise and to encourage them to lead an active post-retirement life.”

It looks like an excellent opportunity for the senior citizens who often find themselves without a substantial source of income, despite possessing a strong will and an alert mind. Such an opportunity shall not only help the aged to find a paid vocation, it shall also help the companies to make good use of their huge experience in their respective fields, without getting into the hassles of employing them full time.

Does it sound like consulting business? Yes, it surely does and it has surely been in the market for a couple of years now. However, what we miss here is the presence of such a portal that shall enable everyone to be accessible by who seeks him the most.

Also, contouring the idea onto the Indian context, the concept of old-age homes has been catching up. Although such an arrangement ain’t too alien to human kind, this concept is still looked down upon, in the Indian society. However, if even the old manage to earn their own bread, they shall never have to rely on their progenies for food and shelter. It’s not that WATBlog endorses the idea of old-age homes but, at the end of the day, everyone needs to come to terms with reality!

  1. I find this venture most encouraging !
I do not know whether I shall leave my resume here.
However, I may say that I am sixty four years of age. My only son being abroad , I find my time hanging heavy on me.
Briefly stated, I worked in the Govt Service and retired as the highest level.I have expertise in taxation but no interest in the financial area now. I love teaching and interacting with people, particularly with children. I had been the Principal of the training school of our organisation. I had a training for trainers organised by International Customs Organisation in Malaysia. I shall love to be of help to school children in subjects relating to humanities .I can also help in Administration as I have long experience in that area. But, I cannot travel far. I live in Bhowanipur in South Calcutta.
I may help without any remunaration. To be very frank, I have no financial worries.
I may add , I work as President of Interview Boards organised by the Staff Selection of the Govt of India.
