Google Eyes Video Annotations, Acquires Omnisio
Not so long ago, YouTube announced one refreshing feature from its labs. It was called ‘Video Annotations’. With this feature, YouTube members could add commentary, text bubbles and even link to other vidoes from the video itself. Though YouTube did not make this public, it is still available in YouTube’s TestTube, where the site’s engineers test out and take trials of upcoming features and users can give their feedback on the same.

It seems as if Google wants to pay more attention to this feature and enhance the overall experience for users on Youtube. On the YouTube blog, the company has announced that it has acquired Omnisio, a small California-based startup that’s focused on making online video more useful and collaborative.

The blog says:
We’re big fans of anything that lets people interact with online video and gives the YouTube community the chance to express themselves in creative ways,” Google’s YouTube team said. “The Omnisio team has tremendous technical expertise when it comes to advanced video tools and having this kind of talent at YouTube should help us further explore ways to enhance your YouTube experience.
We believe we’ve only scratched the surface in terms of what’s possible with online video, so stay tuned for other tools and features that will let you do even more with your videos.

Omnisio’s technology will enable Google to add much more interesting feature to YouTube. Imagine the ability to add tags to videos that let you navigate to a specific part of the video, ability to combine multiple video clips a way to insert comment bubbles on your favorite video effectively spicing up the viewing pleasure.
However, how this feature would be implemented would be interesting to see. If too much of annotations are added, it would severely harm the viewing experience making the video all the more uninteresting instead. What are your views?
