Meow FM Launches Social Network MeriMeow - Is Traditional Media Awakening To The Social Media Opportunity?
Email It!
Meow Fm the for women only radio channel that is live in Delhi, Kolkata and Mumbai which we had blogged about earlier as well has launched its own social network for “Women” (who else) as a web extension of its brand. Meow Fm has launched MeriMeow (Too much overload of meow here!) as a social network and seems to have used the ning social networking platform to do so.

Even earlier we had reported Jam Magazine launching clubjam a social network for their readers on the ning platform. It seems ning is catching up in India atleast with the traditional media guys who are finding it painless and free to start a social network through ning.com. For those who dont know about ning.com can read about it here.
Coming back to traditional media guys launching social networks its interesting to note how many have actually done that..
- Times Group - iTimes.com
- HTMedia - Desimartini.com (Acquired)
- Jam Magazine - ClubJam.jammag.com
- Meow Fm - Meowfm.ning.com
Well these are the ones I can think of.. Any more anyone?
Though traditional media players have been using other forms of social media like blogs and podcasting.
- Big92.7 Fm - Blogs and Podcasting (See our coverage here)
- NDTV - Blogs (See our coverage here)
- CNN-IBN - Blogs
- Mint Newspaper - Blogs (Launched earlier this year)
Other channels like MTV use an exclusive orkut group to engage in social media engagement. It makes sense for these players to engage their readers/listners/viewers beyond the primary medium as the future does signal a digital only consumer atleast as far as the youth is concerned and cross media engagement might be the best way to hedge your bets given that one media could gain over the other in the years to come.
