Reliance Communications laps up $ 500 million from EDC, Canada - Will it help improve their services now?

Reliance Communications has been upbeat about sprucing up its GSM services for a long time, now. After making SMART’s, its GSM network, presence felt in the eastern and central zone, Reliance has been looking to expand to the rest of the country in a big way. They took the very first step by converting all of their existing WebWorlds to cater to both RIM (Reliance India Mobile) SMART’s customers. Then, as Business Standard reports, RCom receiving a loan of $ 500 million from EDC Canada, in addition to the $ 750 million the Anil Ambani firm had loaned from China Development Bank.
So, what does it mean for the customers, apart from getting all the more pampered for choices? Reliance had just rolled out GPRS services for its GSM networks, a few months back. After becoming the largest and the fastest growing CDMA network in the country, it realizes the opportunity of growth in the GSM segment since most users are still not comfortable with the idea of getting tied up with the same service provider for time immemorial. Moreover, provided RCom manages to come up with a pan-India presence and combining both its GSM and CDMA services, it is slated to become a great force in the Indian telecom market.
If we look at it more closely, Reliance Infocom has now managed to drill itself into almost all kinds of infotech market, namely, gaming, telecom, broadband serivices, DTH, IPTV and also VPN. Come to think of it, it already has one of the largest bouquet of services just through its CDMA networks.
Unfortunately, not everything is rosy about RCom. The very basic need of relationship between a consumer and the company is faith and that is precisely what it lacks, what with enormous & erronous phone bills, scrapping up of gaming tourneys despite getting gamers around the world registered for the same and rerouting international calls as domestic ones. What also marrs a consumer’sexperience is their quality of customer servicing. Persnally, it is one of the most pathetic I have ever come across, even overtaking MTNL’s. They might be a huge conglomerate but unless they shape up their public relations, they still have a huge way to go.
