Just received this tip. Jeevansathi.com now lets you chat with other users over Google Talk. No IDs are exchanged, you can do it anonymously. Users can now chat with the users who are already online. All they have to do is add jeevansathichat@gmail.com to their Google Talk. Once done, you will be able to send and receive chat request from other online members.

Making use of Google Talk is a smart step. Usually websites do offer chat facility on their websites. But users are weary of the chat applications that they are not familiar with. Most of the time, these chat features are not used. Google Talk is an open environment chat. Open as in, its lets you integrate Google Chat facility with other web applications. We had already talked about Google chat being embedded as a widget on your blog. The advantages of this system, apart from familiarity is, a number of users are already using it. So, you have the infrastructure (if I can use the word) laid out already.

The introduction of this feature is a good step, but I’m wondering, weather it has anything to do with the recent tussle between the Indian matrimony websites?

Lets see.

  1. If all chat messages go through jeevansathichat@gmail.com then this is serious privacy issue.

  2. It is not, because the jeevansathichat@gmail.com is a bot that acts as a relay for you to chat with another user.

Eavesdropping should not be an issue.
