Well taking the web everywhere seems to be the funda being followed by the big web players. So if earlier it was about opening offline centres now Shaadi.com has set its eyes on the set top box users by tying up with DTH player DishTv to provide Shaadi Active a service that will allow DishTv viewers to browse through matrimonial profiles on their TV Screens!

As per release dishtv’s ‘Shaadi Active’ service will work exactly like the online shaadi.com i.e. viewers will be able to screen, search prospective bride/grooms and then contact them. To make sure the same profiles dont turn up everyday, the profiles will be refreshed on a daily basis.

Speaking on the initiative, Vibhas Mehta, Business Head - Shaadi.com said, “Through this tie-up we are delighted to extend our superior matchmaking experience to dishtv subscribers. This partnership is of great value to us, since it makes Shaadi.com’s matrimonial service available to the largest DTH user base in the country. Shaadi.com offers the widest choice in terms of eligible profiles; we have over 10 million members to choose from, and more than a million matches to our credit. Being an online service, we were looking at various mediums to capture a larger audience; with the launch of Shaadi Active, our services will now reach a wider user base through dishtv, without any need to log on to the Internet.”

This move by Shaadi.com will take the online matrimony competition to DTH and it remains to be seen how Jeevansaathi and Bharatmatrimony react? Will one of them tie up with Tata Sky to counter this move?

Reaching beyond online audience has been the prerogative of these player since they got funded. So be it offline matrimony points or going mobile or now venturing into DTH all these efforts are a way to reach out to a larger audience and not rely completely on the online media which had till now taken time to take off. Though I wonder how much revenue could this partnership with DishTv make for Shaadi? Though there is no word on the pricing but I am assuming this service is to be subscribed to. Even if it is so it will be interesting to know the revenue share between shaadi and dishtv.
