Matrimony DTH Wars! - Exclusive: BharatMatrimony Tie’s Up With Tata Sky To Launch Actve Matrimony!
Email It!
You are reading it first here: Well that was quick! I just got informed by Bharatmatrimony that they too have tied up with Tata Sky and unlike Shaadi.com - Dishtv alliance have already launched the service on the Tata Sky yesterday itself. So as I write this blog the press conference is being held at chennai.

One can check out the details of actve matrimony on the Tata Sky site here
Its almost ironical that we mentioned in our post covering the shaadi and dishtv (which was done just an hour ago!) tie up that the reaction would come in the form of bharatmatrimony or jeevansaathi tying up with Tata Sky. Talk about hitting the nail on the head!
Unlike Shaadi Active on DishTv which will be updated daily, Bharatmatrimony’s Actve Matrimony will feature 1000 new matrimonial listings every week classified according to multiple languages and communities. This means Actve Matrimony will be updated weekly and not daily.
The listings on Actve Matrimony will show only premium members from bharatmatrimony.com and only those which choose to opt in to the service. The Tata Sky subscribers can contact the prospective bride/groom by sending an SMS request to Tata Sky.
Speaking on the initiative Murugavel Janakiraman, Founder and CEO of BharatMatrimony.com said “We are happy to be associated with TataSky to bring Active Matrimony service directly into Indian homes. This tie-up will further help to consolidate our leadership position in the matrimony industry by adding direct access to over 2 million homes in addition to our existing base of over 12 million members. Actve Matrimony is a perfect platform, which simplifies matrimony search process of people who do not have access either to the internet or our offline initiative “BharatMatrimony Center” in their city. Making a right choice in finding a suitable life partner is a major challenge for individuals today and BharatMatrimony is committed to ensuring the best choice of a life partner through an easy and secure platform. We are confident that our partnership with TataSky will bring many more to happy couple hood.”
Well this is as good as it gets when it comes to competitive strategies! Both the companies have launched similar services with two competing partners on the same day! Difficult to say who copied whom though we shall try and get bytes from both Shaadi.com and BharatMatrimony on this issue.
Also it will be interesting to know the thoughts of the other players in Jeevansaathi and SimplyMarry on what they think about this launch. They pretty much have no choice but to wait for Reliance’s Big Tv to launch so that they can tie up with a DTH player themselves.

reminds me of that bipasha movie ‘corporate’… competitive advantage has gone for a toss!! i wonder if bharat matri is on an exclusive deal.. considering that it has region based entities like kerala matri, tie ups with regional dth operators like sun direct would also be beneficial… meanwhile, kerala matri already has the tata sky announcement…
also wonder if there will now be bundling of regional channels + active matrimony.. more ways of making Matri Money!!!
Adding on to what manuscrypts said,
Kerala Matrimony is very popular in Kerala and Tata Sky is as much unpopular.
I would say Bharat Matrimony found the wrong DTH partner. I don’t see Tata Sky becoming any better.
maybe my info logs are a bit delayed, but as far as i know, the bharat matri tie-up came a few days back/earlier than the recent(today) shaadi-dish one.
Ya this can be a gr8 service but this could be a serious breech of privacy i mean like without having username/password ur browseing profiles with out any watch???.personal info on the lose???
A discussion on the Bharat Matrimony and TataSky tieup has been active on a forum since quite a while now! The thread was created on 17th July! Don’t know how they get their news so fast.

so whats next? reality shows based on ‘how to marry a millionaire’ hosted by aamir and shah rukh respectively?
I just got an alert on my tata sky. Though its a great initiative, I agree that there is going to be a lot of misuse of the service. Its anyways a gamble when you go to these sites… lets hope that this does not make hoaxes a reality.
