Amazon.com, one of the largest online stores, introduced a portable e-book reader back in November last year. The device has been tremendously successful from the time of its launch.
We had written about the Kindle back in November, when Harshil first covered the announcement of the product by Amazon. With Kindle and other such products available in the market, the future of Books - the conventional method of reading looks bright. One of the Kindle’s main features is its ability to download content without being connected to a computer. Amazon’s reader uses a wireless broadband standard used by mobile phone service providers.
Now, Crunchgear is reporting that Amazon plans to bring out two new models of the Kindle, just in time for the holiday season in the US. According to their report, the first model will carry the same features and screen size of the current model, although in a smaller, more curvy form factor. The second model, will be bigger than the current model and will be shaped the size of a 8.5 x 11 inch paper. Both the models are rumoured to be available in multiple colors.
Even though Amazon has not released any sales figures about the total sales of the Kindle, analysts estimate that Amazon may sell over 750 million Kindles by 2010.
