Marc Andreessen, often referred to as the Silicon Valley ‘whiz kid’, is a multi-millionaire software engineer, best known as co-author of Mosaic, the first widely-used web browser,,and co-founder of Netscape Communications Corporation.
Marc Andreessen is now a part of Facebook’s Board of Directors. This was announced on July 1st, 2008.
Andreessen is currently the CTO for Ning, a social-network creation site. Ning allows the user to create their own social network, customizing it using the various available modules, styles and colors.
Is this new addition to Facebook’s board of directors, a move by Facebook to prepare for something BIG coming our way?
Shāyon adds : Andressen had appeared in on the cover of TIME Magazine’s Feb ‘96 issue as one of “The Golden Geeks”. Andressen joins Facebook at a crucial stage when social media is on a high and Google has been coming up with innovations and new features with Orkut almost every other day. He will be a key man in giving new directions to the social media site and also infuse fresh ideas within the team. Here’s wishing him all the best and hoping that he comes up with a brighter idea than applications.
Update: Macrospecs Inc. launches FreindMobilizer, a free application for Windows Smartphones and Pocket PCs. Riding high on the increased popularity of social media and in an effort to reach out to the mobile internet users, such an application shall go a long way in integrating the presence of Facebook persona with a person’s life. Launching the mobile versions of social networks like Facebook and Orkut made sense because today’s youth believes in synergizing their offline and online presence, much like today’s brands, and are always excited about the idea of checking out their scraps & messaged and also update their “status” on the go, as things are happening. With the advent of smartphones like Blackberry and iPhone and with more & more push towards the capability of accessing information with a flick, I can envision a day when a computer, the way we know it today, shall be used only for heavy computing purposes (yeah, it’s not rocket science, I know) and it’s gonna be the mobiles, per se, and smart gadgets (like iPhone, iPod Touch, PSP etc) that shall empower a man with communication.
