iPhone To Be Costliest In India

Business Standard reports that the iPhone, coming soon to India, might cost around Rs.28,000 for the 16 GB version. That’s the highest price for iPhone anywhere in the world. This is because, unlike in the United States and the U.K., carriers will not be “bundling” the iPhone with their services.
In the United States, the iPhone is available for as low as $199 (Rs. 8,000), for the 8-GB version and $299 (Rs. 11,960) for the 16-GB version. Moreover, O2 is giving away Phone for free in UK and T-Mobile is charging as low as Euro1 (Rs.67.92) in Germany. That is because, the carriers tie-up expensive plans with the device. They can make much more than they lose by bundling iPhone with their services.
This, however will not work so well in India, coz of the highly flexible and prepaid-oriented market that India is. An Indian mobile user hates the idea of being tied up to one carrier. They will cherish their iPhones, for sure, but will like the freedom to choose among the carriers, themselves.
A Bharti Airtel spokesperson said on this:
”We have plans of bringing in the iPhone before the close of the year, though a specific launch date is yet to be announced. It is too premature to comment on pricing details.”
