Synchronize Firefox with Weave 0.2 - Download Record gets Official!

Mozilla Labs have announced the availability of Mozilla Weave v0.2, a project that will enable data synchronization from your browser across multiple computers.
Originally announced back in December 2007, the 0.2 release is the third major release of the project. Here’s how Weave works:

- Browser meta data is pushed into the cloud (e.g. bookmarks, history, customizations, cookies etc.)
- This meta data is transparently reflected everywhere an individual gets online.
- Mozilla provides a basic framework for easily sharing and delegating access to this meta data to friends, family and third-parties.
- Mozilla builds tools and APIs to extend this framework and to provide new user experiences.
The project is still, however, in early stages of development and hence, casual users are most likely to stay away from this product until it is rolled out of the Mozilla Labs. With this release, a lot of changes have been made over the early 0.1 release. Weave is now capable of synchronizing Bookmarks, History, Cookies, Saved Passwords, Saved Form Data and even Tabs.
Mozilla has another reason to celebrate too. The Firefox download day record, which we talked about about earlier, has now been made official. I was one of the 8,002,530 people who downloaded the version 3.0 of Firefox onto their computers. Gareth Deaves, from the Guinnes World Records called it
…an extremely impressive accomplishment.
The Download Day was marred with the failing of some of their servers and an apparent flaw in the software being pointed out by security agencies. The browser now holds a 19% market share among browsers with versions available in Gujarati and Punjabi too.

woweee, didn’t know they were working on THAT.. but, isn’t there a possibility of increase in privacy issues?
Interesting - they already have a sync across browser facility via a plugin for multiple settings related to bookmarks, passwords and the like. But these are all seperate plugins - its now integrated… so better for the consumer
