“Ek Kaagaz” - India’s First Web-only Music Album Released
The country’s first ever non-physical single music track was released online the day before.
Even though the system has existed in other countries since long, this seems to be the first time ever that such a thing is done here. The track is expected to earn revenue using the advertising banners and traffic to the site. The singers, Devika and Pralay Bakshi, are known for their work ‘Kehnde Ne Naina’ and ‘Dilli Dilwalon Ki’ (the Delhi Daredevils promotional song) respectively.
The single, titled ‘Ek Kaagaz’, has been made available on the faith records site. It has been composed and written by Pralay Bakshi, and jointly performed by Pralay and Devika with music from SaazMantra (known for their work with ‘French Fries and Curry’).
The singers do not plan to monetize using the the conventional and traditional method of music releases, since according to them:
…the Internet is the medium to reach out a wider audience and create awareness, monetization is secondary at this stage.
Off late, there have been a lot of cases where music has been released online along with the traditional medium. It would be interesting to see how a online-only release for a single fares.
