Zapak.com, Reliance ADAG owned online gaming portal, has earned the exclusive rights to distribute toy merchandise from the Harman Baweja and Priyanka Chopra starrer futuristic sci-fi movie, LoveStory 2050 whose Wiki page was defaced earlier.

Indian Television reports that the company won the exclusive rights from Cartoon Network for three products - Space Carrier, Space Listener and Boo.

Space Carrier is a futuristic vehicle that the lead pair use to commute in the movie. The toy will be a remote control operated vehicle which will be priced at Rs 999.

Space Listener is based on the punch line of the movie ‘The future is here’ and is a battery operated toy that helps listen to things which are being said far away. This product will also br priced at Rs 999.

‘Boo’ is a robot pet from the movie and will be available in two variants which will be priced at Rs 299 and 499 respectively.

Arun Mehra, Chief of Marketing for Zapak, was quoted saying,

This tie-up with Lovestory 2050 is our second step in the segment of merchandising. The movie has a futuristic setting and these products will have a complete fit with the kids and gaming fraternity.

Zapak also plans to promote a 3D game based on the movie and promote it at their gameplex network across the country, which has over 5 million registered users. The company also plans to have 500 gameplexes by 2009. The game, which has been developed by Rocking Pixels features gameplay set in a futuristic Mumbai.

Rajiv Adds: The question to be asked is, “What is Zapak? Is it a casual gaming company? A Bollywood merchandising company or is it a game marketing company? Earlier  too, they partnered with FXlabs to promote Agni Malaika Arora centric game which, WATGame thought, had a really bad promo video. Though Bollywood’s brand might have helped the sales but the videos as well as the promos for the game itself were very poorly produced. On the whole, Zapak, as a company, seems to be all over the place since the very beginning. First they launched games, then Zapak Mail, Zapak Girls, Zapak Kids and then they went ahead and tied up with Maxim for pictures of scantily clad women on their supposedly gaming site for kids.

All in all the marketing team at zapak seems to jump at any opportunity without an overall vision for the company. Nonetheless as they say if you have the money the world will go round. Lets see how long the world goes round for Zapak. ;)
